FAQ
What quality can I expect from SeaChange products?
- SeaChange uses only wild salmon.
- SeaChange salmon products are all certified as sustainably harvested by the Vancouver Aquarium Oceanwise program.
- SeaChange features three of Canada’s five wild salmon species within our product line: sockeye, pink and chum. Sockeye is the darkest red and strongest in flavour. We prefer our sockeye simply smoked. Pink salmon is lighter in color and more delicate in flavour, and is an excellent choice for combining with other delicate flavours such as ice wine and maple syrup. Chum salmon is a very dense fleshed wild salmon, and is selected for smoking and drying to make SeaChange Smoked Salmon Jerky.
- SeaChange bread mixes are made with freshly milled organic flours.
- SeaChange teas, maple sugar and condiments are made with all natural ingredients.
- SeaChange seafood pâtés are made with fresh, whole food ingredients, resulting in a better quality pâté than any other tinned seafood pâtés on the market. The base ingredient of each pâté is fresh whipping cream rather than a pre-processed milk ingredient. Taste the difference!
What is the shelf life of SeaChange products?
- SeaChange ‘Best Before’ dates indicate the date until which SeaChange guarantees optimum quality.
- SeaChange products do not require refrigeration until they are opened.
- All SeaChange seafood products (except SeaChange Smoked Salmon Jerky) are labeled as ‘Best Before’ three years from production. SeaChange Smoked Salmon Jerky is labeled as ‘Best Before’ four months from ship date.
- All SeaChange non-seafood products are labeled as ‘Best Before’ one year from ship date.
How is SeaChange Smoked Salmon prepared?
- SeaChange Smoked Salmon products are packed in gold foil pouches, also known as retort pouches.
- Fillets of raw salmon are prepared with smoke and seasonings (such as smoke, sea salt, maple syrup etc.) and placed in a gold foil pouch.
- The pouch is sealed and cooked with high temperature steam under pressure.
- The resulting product inside the pouch is fully cooked and contains some juice, which comes out of the salmon during the cooking process. The contents of the pouch are completely sterile and extremely shelf stable, which is why SeaChange Smoked Salmon keeps so well.
